Our nippers program is held every Sunday starting in September for approximately 3 hours on Main Beach. The objective of our program is to educate the children on aquatic safety and awareness, provide fitness skills, and educate in Surf Lifesaving competition, first aid and resuscitation. While competition is an important element, surf safety and awareness is the primary aim. Children are taught how to respect the surf, read the surf and use the surf to their advantage. This provides a fun, healthy lifestyle and a camaraderie which is unique to Surf Lifesaving. Our patrolling members are a vital part of the club, junior members are encouraged to transition to seniors through gaining various awards including their SRC (Surf Rescue Certificate, age 13) and their Bronze Medallion (age 15), allowing them to join patrol and become fully fledged Life Savers. QLD Surf Lifesaving Appeal - Ever seen the Lifesavers out rattling their cans? This is our favourite way to raise funds for our club. Once a year clubs across Australia take to the streets and rattle our cans to raise money for our clubs and youth. Members are encouraged to help out in this once a year event. Juniors who help out on the day benefit with reduced rates for our annual club camp. |

Juniors who help out on the day benefit by reduced rates for our annual club camp. "We're here for the kids" is our club motto and this is evident in the emphasis we place on our Nipper program. Nippers is run every Sunday during the season, where the flat waters of the bay are ideal for teaching board and paddle skills. The club tries to have an away day every season and we often head down to the Gold Coast to join in the fun of a wave beach. We also head away for a club camp and most recently travel north for the Sunshine Coast. Club camp is a great time for Nippers and other club members to develop their team building skills and improve their surf abilities. Coochiemudlo is a friendly family club servicing an Island community and holiday tourists. We may be small but we are big on skills and fun. |
